It is a short 20 minute drive to the train station in the town of Chiusi. This made it convenient for family members to come and go. The property is also walking distance to several good vineyards and is a short drive to the scenic/historic towns of Montepulciano and Pienza. We drove up from Rome, and it took us exactly 2 hours to get to the property. The owner, Rafaele, was attentive to our needs and was kind enough to give us some honey, jam, and olive oil he made himself on the property. Thank you Rafaele! The house is spacious, clean and well appointed. We were six adults and two large dogs and we were very comfortable. The barbecue is fantastic and we used it often. It was great to cook the local Chianina Fiorentina steaks. The place is perfect for a large group because it accommodates different the needs. Some people decided to stay and relax at the house while others went on long walks and others took drives to the local towns. All in all a wonderful family getaway. We will be back! The property is immaculately kept and is really well equipped, with everything you could possibly need. Both bathroom and pool towels were provided. Rafaele works the surrounding land every day so is present should you need anything, but in a very unobtrusive way. He can give you information on taxis and recommend local restaurants and places to visit. The pool was cleaned first thing every morning and we were given a lovely welcome basket of home made olive oil and fruit and vegetables from the gardens. His daughter, Margherita cooked us a wonderful meal one evening from a selection of different priced menus she has designed, all home made. She is also available to babysit should you need it. We didn't use the air conditioning that much, but for a few occasions and the total cost was Euro 20. Margherita recommended a local spa, Theia Terme which was so good we went twice!! It costs Euro 17 for 4 hours use of the pools; there is a separate childrens area with an indoor and outdoor pool plus a play room which was all free for the 2 year old with us. The Coop is a 10 minute drive away and you can get almost everything you need there (try the Florentine steaks on the BBQ, wonderful). You do need a car to get around as there is not really anything within walking distance. We visited Siena for a day (go early - parking is not easy!) and Montepulicano. Our group ranged in age from 2 to 66 and every one of us had the most amazing time. I cannot rate this property highly enough, it is wonderful in every way and we would definitely hope to go back again in the future. Andrew2018-11-13Verificata Tuscany, just like the postcard. The beautiful countryside on the drive from the airport was only the beginning. Through the pretty historic town of Chianciano the road to the farmhouse opens into the Tuscan hills and iconic vines, just like the postcard. The farmhouse is set in rolling farmland and is perfectly secluded. Rafaelle the owner and host welcomed the four of us warmly with some local produce and a brief tour of the property. Rafaelle also advised on local restaurants on the first night - invaluable as we arrived hangry in the early evening. Upstairs is a self-contained, two bed, two bath apartment with kitchen and balcony overlooking the garden. The pool is totally private with spectacular views. The next day we stocked-up on supplies and often ate at the farmhouse. The main kitchen is basic and completely functional while the dining table will easily seat 8-10. There is a BBQ and ample sheltered seating in the garden. Chianciano is 10 minutes' drive away and has many restaurants and a supermarket. Montepulciano, a grand hill-side town is only 15 minutes away by car, perfect for dining out without a long drive. We only stayed a week and didn't want to leave. We are definitely going back and recommend highly. The house is ideally located in the heart of the Tuscan countryside, in a quiet and beautiful environment. We particularly liked: - The typical character of the house, its comfort and its very large living room on the ground floor - The large sheltered terrace facing the house, where we spent a lot of time especially during meals - The large and beautiful pool, with splendid views of the Tuscan countryside and many sunbeds: the favorite place for children ... and adults - The Pizzas evening organized by Raffaele at home, with his friend pizzaiolo at the controls. Many options are available from the house for beautiful day or half-day excursions: Montepulciano, Pienza, Siena, Florence ... for a very rich and memorable week! David U2018-06-16Verificata Beautiful location Set on a hill overlooking a valley in the Tuscan countryside it is a beautiful location. A short drive from the town, and within striking distance of a number of pretty Tuscan and Umbrian towns. About an hour and a half to Florence, but straight up the motorway. Orvieto and Montepulciano are well worth a visit. Also the thermal rock pools just outside Bagno Vignoni. If you go to the spas in Chianciano Terme take your own towels and robes as the charges for these are quite high. The villa is on about two acres of land which the family work so you may well find they are there on occasion although they do not intrude. In all a very good experience. patrickruymen2018-05-09Verificata Nice and pleasant house, breathtaking view, excellent location for exploring Toscany Helpful owner although his english is rather poor. The house is located 10' outside of Chianciancano in the countryside. It is basic and comfortable and provide all one needs to enjoy a pleasant stay. A swimming pool in a magnificent garden set, in a gorgeous landscape is a plus. At the other side of the road is a wine grower offering a more than decent Chianti for a mere 8,-€/ unit. The town has a COOP and a market on wednesdays. The BUCO is a great restaurant with delicious toscane cuisine. If you are not looking for luxury but for a fine experience, this is the place to be. Tony S2018-01-28Verificata Thanksgiving Weekend We had 3 adults and a 4 year old staying at this wonderful dream like place in Sienna tuscan countryside. The views are stunning, and the location to drive to Montepulciano Montalcino, Seinna etc can't be beat. We stayed on the upper floor, and everything was taken care of for us. Raffeale was so great at making sure we had a fantastic time. Most will be here in the summer, but late november was cold, and he had the fire lit, and ready to go for us! For those summer time guests, there is a fantastic pool, and the garden dining areas are perfect for relaxing in the shade. I highly recommend you stay here, it's fantastic! JSBPhilly2018-01-02Verificata Great, Traditional Tuscan Home A week in September was perfect, but too short a stay in this beautiful Tuscan home. The house is spacious, well equipped and immaculately clean. The weather was a bit too cool to use the pool but it was clean and well maintained. The location is perfect for day excursions throughout the Val d'Orcia or to Sienna or Florence. The owner, Rafaele, was very generous, sharing vegetables and fruit from his garden, providing a complimentary bottle of wine upon our arrival and arranging reservations at a local restaurant and olive oil mill on short notice. Across the street is an excellent, rustic, family owned winery. Each evening we watched a shepherd take his flock of sheep from the pasture below our house up to another small farm for milking (to make the pecorino cheese). All in all this was the perfect place to experience the real heart of Tuscany.
